Vilnius, June 2nd. Acting President Artūras Paulauskas of the Republic of Lithuania congratulated today President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi of the Italian Republic on National day of Italy Republics Proclamation Day.
Acting President of Lithuania invited President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi to visit Lithuania and wished well being to the people of Italy and prosperity to the country.
It gives me a pleasure to recall a long-standing record of the relations between our states, as well as our reciprocal support resting on the spiritual strength and the shared goals of our nations. Since the first days of restoration of independence of our country Italy has been among the closest partners of Lithuania, supporting firmly and consistently its accession to the European Union and NATO. I am convinced that our membership in these organizations marks the beginning of a qualitatively new phase in co-operation between our states. Likewise I am certain that friendly and dynamic relations between our countries will get stronger in the future, and that Lithuania and Italy will work jointly with other EU and NATO Member States on important issues of the Euro-Atlantic partnership, it is said in the congratulatory letter Acting President Artūras Paulauskas.
